Preparing for The Lord's Day

What captivates you? What fascinates you and engrosses your mind? Is it a hobby? A financial, academic or career goal? A political philosophy? A pleasure? A fear? This week we will continue our study of Colossians picking up at Colossians 2:8-10. Here the Apostle Paul warns the Colossian church not to be taken captive by the powers of this world but rather to be captivated by Christ alone. For it is only in Jesus Christ that our desire to be captivated will be completely fulfilled. To come prepared for the sermon take time to read and to meditate upon Colossians 2:6-15, John 1:14-16, Westminster Confession of Faith 8.2,3 and Westminster Shorter Catechism #1.

This week we will celebrate that sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during our worship service. As we receive the elements of bread and wine look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. For as we physically receive the signs of the Lord’s body and blood, spiritually we feed upon him and all his benefits. Our hymns for this week include “All People That on Earth Do Dwell,” “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us,” and “Hast Thou Heard Him, Seen Him, Known Him?”

If you’re going to be out of town this Sunday, let me encourage you to listen to the sermon online (usually posted by Monday afternoon) or you can download the REPC podcast, which will be delivered to your mobile device.
