Preparing for the Lord's Day

Union with Christ is short hand for describing the relationship that Christians have with their savior. It means that we have been so joined to Christ that we have a new identity, that we have been forgiven and that we have spiritual life that all flows from our Savior.  As a result of this union, whatever Christ does, affects us.  If He dies, we die.  If He lives, we live.  If He is blessed, we are blessed.  If He has been raised, we too will be raised.  Everything that Jesus does has a direct effect on the life of a Christian. This week, we will conclude our three-week study of union with Christ as found in Colossians 3:1-4.  Our focus will be our union with Christ in His future work, namely our union with Christ at His second coming.  To come prepared for the sermon, take time this week to read and to meditate upon Colossians 3:1-4, 1 John 3:1-3, Ephesians 5:27 and Westminster Confession of Faith 32.2-3.

As we gather to worship our Coming Lord, we will join our hearts in song, singing the Hymn of Praise “All Creatures of Our God and King”, the Acclamation of Praise “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”, and the Hymn of Response “The Sands of Time Are Sinking”.  Let us come to worship this Sunday prepared to hear God’s Word, to receive it in faith, to love and treasure it in our hearts, and to practice it in our lives that we may continue to glorify and enjoy Him!
